About Silent House
An American remake of a Uruguayan horror film. Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen) and her father (Adam Trese) arrive at their dilapidated family cabin one afternoon with the intention of renovating it. While moving around the dark, boarded-up house, Sarah hears strange noises. Feeling on edge, she hears a loud thump and finds her father unconscious, apparently having been knocked out. Becoming increasingly frantic, Sarah tries to leave but cannot get the boards off any of the windows. When she returns to check on her father, he's disappeared, and a shadowy figure is chasing her. The original film appeared to take place in real time, with no cuts, and the American directors (who also made the tense shark thriller Open Water) have used the same gimmick, trapping the audience in the house with Sarah and only a dim lantern for a light source for nearly 90 minutes.
