Following his debut 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch', the equally controversial 'Shortbus' is John Cameron Mitchell's latest release. The film follows the sexual exploits of Sophia (Sook-Yin Lee), a sex therapist who, ironically, is unable to reach orgasm. At the behest of two of her clients, Sophia visits dominatrix Severin (Lindsay Beamish), owner of the exclusive Shortbus club. It is here that disaffected couples come to iron out problems in their sexual relationships, trying different partners, and even genders, in their quest for erotic fulfilment. Praised for its warm performances and witty exuberance, Shortbus is the most curiously heart-warming film of the year.
