Actress Myrtle Gordon (Gena Rowlands) is unhappy. As she attempts to grow old quietly and unnoticed, the parts that she receives are consistently for the more 'mature' lady...Haunted by the ghost of a dead fan, her world begins to collapse around her as she heads steadily for a nervous breakdown.
