The world descends into chaos when large sections of the population start turning into ferocious zombies overnight. Ex-United Nations investigator Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) and his wife (Mireille Enos) and two daughters are stuck in a traffic jam when mob panic takes over and they have to abandon their car. Commandeering a van, they travel to Newark so that they can be airlifted to somewhere more secure with the help of Gerry's former boss. In return, Gerry has to help find a cure for the deadly infection. Surprisingly, America has become an arena of devastation while other countries fare better with some inventive methods of zombie control: Israel builds a giant wall to keep the infected out while North Korea removes the teeth of all its inhabitants, making it harder for the infection to spread. Gerry travels the globe garnering information from Army Rangers and government agents and it seems that no land, building or plane is safe.

Continuing the tradition of unimaginatively-named spoof comedies, A Haunted House makes fun of haunted house movies, most notably the phenomenally successful Paranormal Activity series and its many found-footage style imitators. Goofy, cuddly-toy-loving Malcolm (veteran of the earlier movies in the Scary Movie franchise, Marlon Wayans) decides to show his girlfriend Kisha (Essence Atkins) that he is committed and asks her to move into his suburban home in Los Angeles. Having set up cameras to document their new domestic bliss, Malcolm soon becomes aware of strange occurrences around the house. It appears that a demon is fixated on Kisha. They call in a shady priest (Cedric The Entertainer) to exorcise the property as well as an electronics expert (David Koechner) and a psychic (Nick Swardson) who takes a shine to Malcolm.
