About Lawrence Of Belgravia

Tells the story of cult indie pop icon Lawrence from the bands Felt, Denim and Go-Kart Mozart. Lawrence from Felt, an indie pop icon, was responsible for some of the most beautiful and captivating music of the eighties. The band released ten albums and ten singles - one for each year of the decade - on such indie labels as Cherry Red and Creation. The myth that surrounds Lawrence is the stuff of pure legend; a one off, utterly unique and completely beguiling. Stories surrounding an obsessiveness with cleaning, phobias about cheese and the story about purchasing a sex doll for a Creation Records compilation cover, all add to the fascination of Lawrence - perhaps previously seen as elusive and mysterious. Just ask Stuart Murdoch and his unsuccessful search for Lawrence on the streets of London. Lawrence of Belgravia – a film by Paul Kelly and a labour of love over the past eight years - has cleverly captured a portrait of Lawrence that we can now all enjoy, be moved by and admire. With conviction, it shows Lawrence still dreaming of being a pop star who rides in limousines and dates supermodels.
