In June 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Bill Murray) and his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams) are due to host the King and Queen of England (Samuel West and Olivia Colman) for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson. It is the first time a reigning English monarch has visited America, and will be a key event in establishing a better relationship between the two nations. But Franklin is more concerned with his distant cousin Daisy (Laura Linney), a country girl who has been sent to keep him company. Of course, this must be kept from the Brits, who are disconcerted by the presence of hotdogs at a picnic. Will the weekend of royal and political protocol go smoothly?
