About Double Indemnity

This 1940s film noir classic, based on a James M. Cain novel and adapted by Raymond Chandler and Billy Wilder, set the standard by which others are measured. A dark mixture of lust and lethal intentions, it was double-Oscar nominated thanks to it's snappy script and terrific lead performances. Opening with a deathbed confession by wounded insurance salesman Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray), Double Indemnity centres on a series of flashbacks about his fateful - or should that be fatal - tete-a-tete with femme fatale Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck). Lovestruck, Neff helps Dietrichson to plan and carry out the so-called perfect crime - bump off her husband and make off with the insurance money. But, of course, things don't quite go to plan when insurance investigator Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson) gets onto their bloody trail.
