Finally, the Marvel superheroes come together on the big screen. Led by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the Avengers are a mix of humans, gods and technological masterminds. Captain America (Chris Evans), a genetically enhanced super-soldier, has been frozen since the 1940s and struggles to adapt to a new world of iPhones and cynicism. So he's going to have problems with the hard-drinking mogul Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) who built his own super-suit after realising the folly of being a weapons manufacturer. Also still adjusting to our world is Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a Norse god whose brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) decides to tackle the gang. Scientist Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) is a quiet man who turns into a giant green Hulk when angered. On the slightly less impressive side are Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), an expert marksman, and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), a deadly spy.
