Seven directors offer their own unique visions of contemporary Cuba in a series of episodic dramas set over the course of seven days. Benecio Del Toro's segment follows a young American actor (Josh Hutcherson) during one wild night of beer, hookers, hedonism and transvestites. In another story, famed director Emir Kusturica arrives in Havana to be honoured at an awards ceremony but spends most of the night drinking and hanging out with musicians. French director Laurence Cantet shows a more down-to-earth view of Cuba with a documentary-style portrait of the residents in a rundown Havana building who team up to build an altar to the Virgin Mary. Provocateur Gasar Noe adds a typically controversial slant with his story of a teenage girl who faces religious persecution.
