ShatterJapan presents this special non-profit festival of music and performance spread over 2 days. Artists from various parts of the UK and beyond are working together at no fee to bring you this special commemorative event.
On 21 February 2012, members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot performed a "punk prayer" in a Moscow church for which they were arrested, detained for over 5 months and eventually sentenced on 17 August 2012 to 2 years imprisonment.
With two of the three members remaining imprisoned (Nadezhda “Nadya” Tolokonnikova and Maria “Masha” Alyokhina) in separate and remote penal colonies, ShatterJapan brings you 2 days of entertainment provided by artists from the UK & international music, film and performance worlds, to commemorate the 1 year anniversary of the sentencing, to appeal for the women’s release, and to celebrate freedom of expression.
