There is no other event that infiltrates the fabric of life in Birmingham as thoroughly, widely and deeply as this Festival has done over nearly three decades.
It is a time where residents and visitors alike gather in the City's squares, stately homes, arcades, cafes, museums, art galleries, restaurants, stores, shopping areas, pubs, parks even on canal boats, buses and trains to enjoy world-class jazz and blues absolutely free.
The fans and musicians alike have a strong international flavour, for this is an occasion when Birmingham actually does become a leisure tourism destination. Hotels, restaurants and bars have special festival offers; jazz is on the airwaves and on the pages of newspapers; the commuter can encounter a jazz poet on his bus or be greeted by a dawn chorus from a jazz band as he gets off his morning train; random banjoists are apt to appear in hotel lifts....
