Benson: 'God Leads, I Obey, My Family Follows

A rehearsed reading of a new play by Victoria Field in association with cube theatre, and directed by Rebecca Hulbert.

It is written by Victoria Field who was writer-in-residence at Truro Cathedral in 2006 and is a former Associate Artist at Hall for Cornwall who produced two of her earlier plays. She says ‘I became fascinated by this Victorian bishop who was able to create such a beautiful building at a time of austerity. His life is full of drama – enough for several plays! I have since moved to Canterbury where Bishop Benson became Archbishop and is buried.’

The performances are in the form of a rehearsed reading and the audience will be invited to give feedback on the script to help the play develop further.

Victoria says, ‘There are nine main characters so a full production will be a costly undertaking and I am hoping these performances will help me take the play to the next level.’ BENSON will be directed by Rebecca Hulbert of cube theatre, a local company specialising in new writing. The cast is fully professional and includes many favourite Cornwall actors including Steve Jacobs, Mark Buffery and Dominic Power. Rebecca says, ‘On visiting the Cathedral after reading Victoria’s script, I saw the whole place with new eyes. With such a strong cast of professional actors anyone who has ever been inspired by Truro’s skyline should come and see how it became what it is today.’
