West Side Story

ACAOS is returning home to the Sir John Wilson Town Hall with a production of the musical blockbuster ‘West Side Story’ in March 2013, taking to the stage exactly 100 years after first performing at the venue back in 1913.

ACAOS were proud to bring down the curtain with a memorable performance of ‘Singing in the Rain’ before the local landmark closed for a £3.6 million, state of the art refurbishment in 2010.

To mark their homecoming, Society members have chosen to perform the classic musical ‘West Side Story’, a show that has not been performed in Lanarkshire for almost 20 years. Considered one of the best musicals ever written, its music is sophisticated, vibrant, and at the time groundbreaking, with a storyline famously based on Romeo and Juliet, set amidst teenage gang rivalry in 1950’s New York. The fact that this is the first time that West Side Story has been performed in Lanarkshire in 20 years has drawn in talented local youngsters to join our vibrant cast.
