Young People's Band Night: Machine Room + The Stagger Rats + Val Verde + The Dandylions
The Festival of Politics shows the kind of innovation that sets the Scottish Parliament apart from others in engaging both the head and the heart. While debate and discussion remain the bedrock, they have added contemporary art, music and theatre to the programme that continues to push boundaries.
From political heavyweights like Sir Malcolm Rifkind MP and the Rt Hon Dr Jack McConnell to contemporary literary stars Louise Welsh and Iain Banks to the sculpture of George Wyllie and the music of Mull Historical Society, the Festival of Politics once again will be a hub of creative activity and debate.
The topics of sectarianism, immigration, human trafficking and the shaping of Scotland’s history will all come under the microscope and there will be a special focus on young people with a range of sessions on the talent of young people, a music industry session and a roster of cutting-edge Scottish bands playing live.

The Stagger Rats
Officially Anne Hathaway's favourite band, the Stagger Rats will astound you with stylish anthems and unique musical brilliance. Formed in the winter of 2008 by Daniel Paylor, Kai Wallace, Callum Easter and Craig McMullen, they had a notion of distancing themselves from the established indie sound. After recruiting Shetlander Jack Sandison on bass and crafting some fine new songs, they got to work on getting a tighter sound.

The Dandylions
The Dandylions met on the Fife folk club circuit and offer a blend of melodic and powerful ballads with altogether edgier offerings from singer-songwriters David Hershaw and Kellie Buchanan. Talented fiddle player Sandie Forbes completes the acoustic trio, adding a distinct sense of Scottishness to their modern and lively sound.
