The Archaeology Of Animals - Paul Thompson

The second most common archaeological finds are bones but which animal do they come from and what does this tell archaeologists about people in the past?

This four day course is an introduction to faunal remains (animal, bird and fish bones) using extensive archaeological and recent comparative material. Students will be able to learn how to identify bones to a species, discover if they were young, old or suffered disease when they died and finally draw conclusions including what part the creatures played, if any, in the economy of the past. A bone identification quiz at the end of each session will test learner's knowledge just for fun.

Suitable for anyone interested in natural history as well as archaeology and for people new to this subject as well as those with some archaeological experience.
