Ragtime - The Musical: Milton Musical Society
A dynamic, fast changing America at the turn of the century, riven by social and racial division, is the background to this amazing, not to be missed, multi-award winning musical.
This stunning musical journey naturally follows on from 'Titanic the Musical' which MMS produced in 2010 to rave reviews.
The show follows the explosive relationships as immigrants arrive on the great liners to a new land already struggling with racial harmony and industrial and social injustice.
Based on the award winning novel by E L Doctorow, with a libretto by Terrence McNally, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty.
With the 150th anniversary of the end of the American Civil War, and the Gettysburg Address being celebrated in 2013, the real-life drama in Ragtime is set at the turn of the century, as we follow the struggle of the black community to assert their independence from the white community, against a background of the country being flooded with European immigrants hungry for a new life.
