Ubu

Ubu is a trilogy of farces by the unusual and eccentric French writer Alfred Jarry, translated here by Kenneth McLeish. King Ubu, Cuckold Ubu and Slave Ubu make up the Ubu Cycle and are a collection of surrealist delights, splattergunning the audience with fearless gall!

The three extraordinary Ubu plays are set in the surreal, fictional location of Baloney and the three tales follow the corruptable and disgusting character Pa Ubu, who swaggers around eating and drinking like a foul-mouthed toady. In the first, King Ubu, Pa Ubu is nagged by his fearsome wife Ma Ubu and gathers a band of cronies to assassinate Good King Wenceslas and seize the throne. In Cuckold Ubu, Pa Ubu terrorises the inhabitants of Peardrop, and finally in Slave Ubu, Pa Ubu decides that he has had enough of tyranny and that the only way to be free is to become a slave!

Come amd enjoy the strange amusements of this ferocious farce with the 11 to 13 year olds from Kaleidoscope Intermediate Theatre Company.

Recommended for ages 11 and over.
