The Magic Flute: Opera Project

Mozart’s fantastical opera blends fairy tale adventure and playful comedy, to tell a tale of magic, power and love, with music as enchanting and spectacular as the plot is mysterious.

Tamino’s quest to rescue the beautiful Pamina for the powerful Queen of the Night is transformed into a search for Wisdom, Virtue and Truth. He is accompanied on his journey by the Queen’s official bird catcher, Papageno, and under the protection of the Magic Flute. But when he enters the great Temple of Sarastro, his heroic rescue mission takes a new turn, as the devious Queen’s true colours are revealed. Papageno, on the other hand, desires the simpler things in life – fine wine, good food and a lovely looking chick to share it with...

A true testament to Mozart’s genius, The Magic Flute is packed with some of the composer’s most recognisable music. From the infamous and stratospherically acrobatic Queen of the Night arias, to heartfelt duets and comic exchanges, Mozart’s magnificent opera is simultaneously comical and genuinely moving.
