The Deep
'A skelping smashing noise and I open ma eyes and ma world is upside doon. All three hunner tones oh steel.'
A young man wakes early one morning and bids farewell to his parents as he heads off for another season on the trawler boat. Once aboard the ship we meet his friends, and hear of their lives at sea together. But as they await arrival on fishing grounds, disaster strikes and all the men are then at the mercy of the sea.
Based on a true event, The Deep is directed by Iain MacDonald. Originally an Icelandic story by Jon Atli Jonasson, it tells the story of how the sea will take as readily as it gives. Here relocated to Scotland, it was translated and adapted by Graeme Maley.
The Deep is a one-man show full of humanity, humour and an aching beauty that will speak to all who have ever admired the power of the sea.
