Portraits From The Global Underground

An inspiring and powerful collection of portrait photographs by Bristol-born Pete Williams. Famous faces feature in abundance with world class musicians such as Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Roni Size and Courtney Pine bringing life to the old stone walls and a rare opportunity to see this selection from the 1988 to 2005 archive.

During these years Pete has photographed some truly gifted musicians from Jazz to Hip Hop, Reggae, Blues, Folk and Indie to African, Latin and Classical and this exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the lives of these musicians, many of which portray them relaxing backstage, in hotel rooms, in bars and on the streets of Bristol and London.

The spontaneous nature of his work has led Pete to some extraordinary meetings with high profile musicians, artists, film makers and the occasional politician and produced a beautiful and inspirational collection of portraits. Shot in a very simple way with minimal equipment and often in uninspiring locations, Pete brings together a unique connection between the portrait and the landscape. Each picture tells a story and at times an emotional one.

The exhibition will run for around a year and will open 90 minutes before every evening performance and from midday before a Thursday lunchtime performance
