Edward Lear: Zoology, Landscape, Nonsense and the Demon of Epilepsy
2012 is the bicentenary of Edward Lear's birth. He is best known for his nonsense poetry and drawings.
As a relief from professional labours, Lear filled his vast correspondence with wordplay, creating his cartoons with limerick captions for Lord Derby's grandchildren and 'The Owl and the Pussycat' for Janet, daughter of the Bristolian, John Addington Symmonds.
