Schubert's String Quintet is widely regarded as one of the miracles of the chamber music repertoire. By turns dramatic and sublime, consoling and raging, the music of this magnificent piece, composed during the last few months of Schubert's tragically short life, is intensely personal. Arensky's String Quartet No 2 was composed in 1895 and bears the inscription 'To the memory of Tchaikovsky.'
