Espirito Brum: Dea Trancoso + Luiz Gabriel Lopes + Tiaodua + Jolt + Gustavito

Brazil, the UK, France and Spain, connecting through culture.

Espirito Brum is a cross cultural celebration bringing together artists from Brazil, Birmingham and the wider UK, in a festival that forms the first stage of an ongoing global exchange.

An annual celebration of music, art and creative communities in Birmingham and Brazil, Espirito Brum is the UK edition of Espirito Mundo. Other European partners include Celles Sur Belle (Poitou Charentes), Aix en Provence, Paris and Madrid.
Birmingham is the first and only UK city to partner in Espirito Mundo.

In May 2012, the first edition of Espirito Mundo Brazil took place in Sao Paulo and Vitoria, Brazil, in some of the two cities’ most important venues – the festival lineup included UK performers.

Espirito Brum supports an abundance of creative collaborations in Birmingham between visiting and local artists, taking shape in concerts, workshops, recordings, art installations, exhibitions, live performances, networking, and a resident shop space
in New Street, Birmingham City Centre.

The roster of Brazilian artists who form Espirito Brum represent a wide cross section of contemporary and traditional disciplines from across Brazil, including musicians, visual artists and performers, who work to share their distinctive interpretations of Brazilian culture.

Espirito Brum is not just a celebration of Brazilian culture however - it is a meeting point, where the cream of Birmingham’s creative talent can explore and create alongside artists from a far removed cultural context.

As the festival welcomes a roster of highly talented and internationally respected
Brazilian artists into its multicultural and vibrant fold, rather than marking out the differences between people, it will be inspired through music and visual art to discover common ground – both within Birmingham, and far beyond its borders.

Digbeth is a hub for Birmingham’s creative practitioners – a space which has been integral to Espirito Brum’s s growth and development. Whilst the festival stays respectful to where it began, the organisers are now pleased to offer a variety of venues
stretching out across Birmingham, as the festival expands into new territory with both performers and attendees.

With this in mind, the festival is striving, through Espirito Brum to make the most of the opportunity to promote Birmingham, its artists, its culture and its enterprise, on a truly
global and profoundly local level. Due to its intrinsic role as a catalyst for connections, not only does Espirito Brum work to host music and culture but it additionally strives to find, promote, and partner potential civic and commercial interests between Brazil and Birmingham’s businessscape.
