Rebecka Slater Lyons (Rosa-Rebecka)

Swedish singer-songwriter Rosa Rebecka’s one-woman show tells the story of a precious family heirloom, a century-old guitar, and the women who have played it. She weaves together story and song to map out a family saga spanning the generations in her own inimitable and engaging style.

Rosa’s great grandmother Katrina was born on a tiny island in the Swedish archipelago. She died tragically young, but she passed on her family’s love of music, as well as this very special little guitar, which has been handed down from mother to daughter ever since. In this concert, Rosa’s haunting voice rises above its still bright tones, as an intimate family tale becomes a universal celebration of love, life and loss.

Rosa mixes nostalgic songs from the past with her own compositions and traditional Swedish pieces, all performed with her trademark vocal flair and emotional intensity. Katrina’s guitar is joined by a host of other instruments, from her son in law’s mandolin to a Tibetan singing bowl, each with its own tale to tell.
