Study Session: Fantasy From The Fire - Painted Maiolica
Tin-glazed earthenware, produced in the 15th and 16th centuries, was much sought-after by the learned, the powerful, and the affluent.
Known as Maiolica, it was appreciated for the technical skill required to produce it as well as the appeal of its vibrant colours, whimsical shapes and intriguing historical references.
In the 19th century these early wares were enthusiastically collected by wealthy and intellectual Victorians for the same reasons
