Never miss another 'Ralph McTell' show
An English Heartbeat: Ralph McTell
Described by Billy Connolly as Britain's best singer/songwriter, Ralph McTell is one of the UK's most consummate entertainers.
He has won The Ivor Novello Award and a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award for his song writing. Travel with Ralph on a musical journey along the path he has followed over four decades. His astute observation and wry take on life shine through his songs and anecdotes.
His rich baritone voice and his virtuosity on guitar promise a very special evening.
Ralph McTell
From an early age, Ralph began his career by hitch-hiking around Europe with his guitar, emulating his hero Woody Guthrie. In the mid 60s he worked at a Cornish campsite, being maintenance man by day, entertainer by night, where he graced the stage at the 'Folk Cottage', a tiny barn in Cornwall that hosted an impromptu club, before eventually settling on the 'streets of London'. During this period, Nick Drake's last public performance was supporting Ralph at Epsom college. It was in 1969 that Ralph came to widespread attention though, thanks to an appearance at the Cambridge Folk Festival where all the audience sang along to the now classic anthem 'Streets Of London', thus launching a long term career penning and performing beautiful acoustic and folk politically conscious songs.
